The lodge property includes 80 wooded acres and a one acre lake surrounded by an Oak Hickory forest. The forest has 15 species of ferns, numerous wildflowers, salamanders, songbirds, owls, wood ducks, ruffed grouse , wild turkeys and white-tailed deer throughout the property.

There are legendary local stories told of a huge old white tailed deer that eludes hunters and a 20 inch large mouth bass that is near impossible to catch in the lake.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife private property hunting and fishing licenses are complimentary if you also hold a valid State License.
 
 

Local stories say Newcomerstown got its name when a white woman’s husband was murdered in the Indian raids. Chief Eagle Feather took her to be his second wife. She was then called a new comer to the Indian settlement. Today Bald Eagles can be seen flying along the Tuscarawas River at the bridge on River St.
